Ballet tutus

Ballet tutus come in many different styles. From romantic styles that feature a flowing, calf-length skirt to the platter design that is stiff and sticks straight out from the dancer’s waist, each different style is meant to evoke a different visual effect. The style of dance often dictates the style of tutu.

Ballet tutus were first introduced during the 17th and 18th centuries. Two basic forms of the tutu were first established; the longer Juliet-style (sometimes referred to as “Romantic”) and the slightly shorter classic tutu. Both styles were designed to show off the intricate footwork of the dance.

Ballet tutus can be purchased from nearly every dance studio and retailer in the country. However, they can range significantly in price, with some costing hundreds of dollars. This being the case, it is often recommended that one shop around before settling on one particular design.
