Ballet clothing

Ballet clothing is usually relatively simple in design. Freedom of movement is the primary goal of most dance clothing, and ballet is no exception. Flexibility is key, and as such most ballet wear is made from “stretchy” materials.

The most common piece of ballet clothing is undoubtedly the leotard. The leotard is a one-piece costume, closely resembling a bathing suit. They are available in dozens of styles, and are a staple of the ballerina’s wardrobe.

Shoes are also important pieces of ballet clothing. Modern ballet shoes are designed to be lightweight, yet supportive of both the toes and the arch of the foot. As with leotards, these can be easily purchased through most dance retailers.
